Pittsburgh Wedding Photography | Nick and Tiffany | The National Aviary, Pittsburgh
Tiffany and Nick had their wedding at The National Aviary on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA, which is a rad place to get married. You’ve got inside with the birds, you’ve got outside in the rose garden, you’ve got OWLS and PENGUINS at your wedding. But I digress.
Before the wedding, Tiffany and Nick saw each other for the first time at the Inn on the Mexican War Streets, which is around the corner from the apartment that they share. Absolutely lovely. We had a great “first look” session rolling around the Mexican War Streets and tip toeing around the beautiful inn. I definitely want to “borrow” this idea for the beautiful linen curtains on the porch.
Tiffany and Nick had their wedding at The National Aviary, on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA. I looooove photographing weddings at the Aviary, it’s a really dynamic place for a wedding. Before the wedding, which was performed by the groom’s sister (sweet!), Tiffany and Nick saw each other for the first time at the Inn on the Mexican War Streets, which is where I plan to move when I win the lottery. Gor-geous. The happy couple are both in med school and share a little apartment around the corner. Their adventures in the medical world are taking them to Nashville soon, so we used their “first look” session as an opportunity to prance gleefully around the Mexican War Streets so they could take a little piece of their neighborhood with them. It turned out to be a great place for portraits and prancing, and I hope they look back on these photos years down the line and remember their block and their time together in Pittsburgh. You know, once they hit the big time.

Steph and Sal are kind of some of the more awesome people in life… they made their own wine as party favors and enjoy making beer and other delicious things together. They have the kind of ease about their relationship that makes me excited to photograph such a special day in their lives, the smiles were constant and naturally erupting at every turn and kiss.

I love the moments before the wedding, make-up brushes flying, hair spraying, champagne pouring and the many moods sweeping the dressing room and its ladies in waiting. There are so many things to catch in that getting-ready period, and so many emotions that could be experienced. I’m always fascinated by all the different tones a dressing room can take, some stuffed with bridesmaids, all whirling and twirling and giggling and goofing around, some quiet and contemplative, a bride, her mother and a best friend diligently adjusting a veil. And of course, there’s everything in between and beyond…

Pittsburgh Aviary on the North Side | Chad and Melissa’s Wedding
Melissa has a quiet moment in the dressing room before she walks down the aisle at her Pittsburgh Aviary wedding. Anyone who knows me knows that I love love love birds, and so of course I thought The Aviary was such an awesome venue for a wedding, complete with the visiting cocktail hour penguin (appropriately dressed in his natural tuxedo, of course). The ceremony was held outside in the garden, with the light just right at the end of the day, shining through the trees and sparkling off the lake in the park just over the garden wall.

Jamie and Shawn’s Wedding | St. Joseph’s Church in Bloomfield | PNC Park
Ahh… where to start with these two? I laughed more at Jamie and Shawn’s wedding maybe more than any other. It was inspiring to watch the easy, effortless love they shared between them, as well as the friendship and laughter they inspired in each other.
Looking back on the day, there were so many layers, so many great people in their cast of characters, and so many different places that we went for me to even wrap my mind around and be concise. However, it’s the first photo in the bunch of these (the one of Jamie’s dutiful maid of honor dabbing her tears as she reads a card from Shawn before the ceremony) that really takes me back to what makes their love special. As she waved the card at her face to fight any mascara running tears, she turned to her parents-in-law to be and said, “Your son is my best friend, he is really truly my best, best friend.” May we all be so lucky…
